EMERGENCY ELECTRICIANS
Sometimes the worst happens when you least expect it, and that is why
you shouldn’t be left in the dark about the process for finding
and hiring an emergency electrician.
Whether your fuse box goes bust in the middle of the night, your burglar
alarm will not go off, or all the lights go out on a gloomy day at the
office, you’ll want to be able to find a 24-hour emergency electrician
who can deal with the problem, quickly, safely and at a reasonable rate.
There are a few important tips to remember when hiring an emergency electrician
and also some safety precautions to take to reduce the risk of you needing
to call out an electrician at all:
- Keep the name and telephone number of an emergency electrician somewhere
handy, if all the lights go out it may take you a long time to find
the contact details of an emergency electrician when all you’ve
got is the light of a candle or torch!
- Although it’s an emergency make sure you get at least three
quotes from different emergency electricians to ensure you are not being
overcharged for the job.
- Ensure that all flexible cables, such as cables for TVs and kettles,
do not have frayed or damaged insulation because this creates a risk
of the cable overheating and catching fire. There is also a risk of
a person receiving an electric shock from touching any live conductors
that may be exposed.
- Only undertake maintenance on electrical equipment, such as changing
the bag in a vacuum cleaner, when the equipment is unplugged, so there
is no risk from electric shock, or moving parts.
- Do not overload adaptors or plug socket extension leads as this can
cause the electrical circuit to overheat, trip out, or even catch fire.
Never plug one adaptor into another and check that the adaptor complies
with an appropriate national standard.
